SIZING A PADDLE

Paddle sizes can be based from several factors of the body size and paddling style

Accurate measurements will help determine how a paddle will fit the paddler and feel in the water

A correctly sized paddle will complement powerful and ergonomic paddling technique

FULL SIZE GREENLAND PADDLE | 79”- 96”

Ergonomic with high performance in a wide variety of paddling styles and conditions. All while providing less strain on the shoulders, arms, core. Strong, flexible, and lightweight properties make these paddles great for touring, surf, expeditions, and rolling.

Length | Measure the distance from elbow to the end of your palm, plus your height. (ex. 70” tall + 18” elbow to fingertip = 88” long paddle)

Loom / Shaft Width | Use a “paddlers box” form (just inside 90 degree elbow bend) and measure the distance between the inside of your grip.

Loom / Shaft Diameter | Small 1 1/4” & Standard 1 3/8”

Blade Width | Blade ends should be comfortable to grip without over stretching your hand. (standard blade width is 3 3/8”

GRAB A MEASURING TAPE, PEN, AND PAPER.

LET’S GET STARTED

STORM/SPARE PADDLE | 62” - 79”

Readiness and reliability when you need it. Short, stout and light weight for a powerful, wind resistant stoke during storm conditions. Safe and low profile stow without risk of protruding from the deck of most sea kayaks.

Length | Measure the distance of an arm span, finger tip to finer tip

Loom / Shaft Width | Measure the outside of two fits held together

Loom / Shaft Diameter | Small 1 1/4” & Standard 1 3/8”

Blade Width | Blade ends should be comfortable to grip without over stretching your hand. (standard blade width is 3 3/8”

ADJUSTMENTS

Each paddle is custom made to the paddler and their needs. Here are the options for tweaking paddle specifications.

FULL SIZE | ADJUSTMENT OPTIONS

Length | Add or subtract up to 6” in total length. (full size parameters 79”-96”)

Blade Width | Up to 5” in total blade width

FULL SIZE| ADJUSTMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Kayak Width vs. Loom Width | If the width of your kayak in front of the cockpit is greater than your loom/shaft measurement, I recommend using the kayak width measurement in place of your body loom/shaft measurement

STORM PADDLE | ADJUSTMENT OPTIONS

Blade Width | Up to 5” in total blade width

STORM PADDLE | ADJUSTMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Deck Storage | Make sure the total length of your storm paddle isn’t greater than the deck space on your kayak. (storm parameters 62” - 79”)

BOARD SELECTION

The final step is to choose a board that’s in stock. I only use kiln dried, premium grade clear lumber. Each board is highly figured and one of a kind.

It’s important to note that grain pattern will alter slightly, oil finishes will deepen colors and bring out grain figure in the final product.
